We Like to Treat Your Whole Family in our Brighton Dental Practice
CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY & FAMILY DENTISTRY
Children adapt well to our comfortable surroundings whether it is for their first dental visit or for continued care. Children should start seeing a dentist regularly from as young as 2- 3 years old (that is as soon as their baby teeth are present.)
The importance of this is to have a pleasant first visit for the child as well as to review appropriate oral hygiene care with the parents. The point at which a child should begin routine / regular visits varies with the maturity of the child.
A good strategy is to accustom the child to dentistry by permitting him/her to observe an older, well-behaved sibling having a routine cleaning Even though it may seem like not a lot is done during these early visits, you will find by familiarizing your child with the surroundings and procedures in a dental practice at an early age will enhance the comfort of any future dental experiences.
MYOBRACE
The myobrace is an intra-oral appliance designed for children as an early-stage correction device.
This is to minimize either the need for future orthodontic treatment or improve the overall outcome of future treatment by addressing the underlying causes of crooked teeth, often without the need for braces or extraction of teeth, and unlocking the power of natural growth and development.
Treatment is best suited to children aged 3 to 15 and involves using a series of removable intra-oral appliances that are worn for 1-2 hours each day plus overnight while sleeping.
Incorrect myofunctional habits in children of a young age can adversely effect the alignment of teeth and lead to malocclusions requiring advanced orthodontic treatment as a teenager.

What Myobrace treatment does:
-
Corrects poor oral habits
-
Develops & aligns the jaws
-
Straightens the teeth
-
Optimises facial development
-
Improves overall health
-
Promotes healthy eating habits

How does it do this?
By helping the child:
-
Breathe through the nose
-
Correct tongue resting position
-
Swallow correctly
-
Keep the lips together

By addressing these incorrect myofunctional habits such as mouth breathing and incorrect tongue position by teaching children to breathe through their nose, rest the tongue correctly in the roof of the mouth, swallow correctly works in synergy with growth processes to help with the continual widening of the jaws so that they grow to their full and proper size. This results in sufficient room for the teeth, allowing them to come in naturally straight and often without the need for braces and/or extractions.

MOUTHGUARDS
If you play a contact sport or ride a mountain bike we strongly recommend that you wear a mouth guard. We will provide a mouthguard that accurately fits your teeth and gives you first rate protection.
A dental mouthguard provides the security and safety of an accurate fit and protection unlike a lot of cheaper options and DIY alternatives will often not provide the level of protection needed.
Dental Mouthguards are inexpensive when you consider you are protecting you or your child's teeth against trauma which could bring a lifetime of cost, pain, and burden.
Mouthguards are customised so that they can be made in favourite colours or team colours.
REGULAR PREVENTIVE DENTAL CARE
This is the best way to help detect the early signs of gum and dental disease before further degradation and larger problems arise which often require more intensive and costly treatments.
Every patient is set a regular recall program that is tailored to suit their needs and the level of care required.
At home oral hygiene maintenance techniques are discussed so that you can maintain your oral health on a daily basis. You can also purchase any oral health device which we recommend in our "Floss Shop"
We offer these products at competitive prices so that we can help you to use the best products for your home care.
